As an Electrical/Diagnostics Technician, your primary responsibility will be to perform maintenance on cars and assess their condition using diagnostic tools. This will include inspecting each vehicle thoroughly and providing necessary repair services such as brake and hydraulic maintenance, fuel ignition, air conditioning, and electrical system repairs. You may also need to remove or install transmissions when necessary.

Along with these duties, you will collaborate with other technicians to ensure all technical activities run smoothly. You will also keep other staff members informed about mechanical repair issues and inventory needs. To perform your job effectively, you will need to operate standard service tools like hydraulic lifts and air tools.

Responsibilities include:

• Performs work as outlined on the repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with the collision centre’s standards
• Confers with customers, if necessary, to determine the nature of any electrical malfunctions
• Determines malfunction of electrical system by visual inspection and use of testing devices such as oscilloscope, voltmeter and ammeter
• Estimates the cost of repairs based on parts and labour charges
• Repair or replace defective wiring
• Adjusts ignition timing and measures and adjusts distributor breaker-point gaps
• Tests and repairs starters, generators and distributors
• Rebuilds electrical units, such as starters, generators and door controls
• Drives customers’ vehicles to test the quality of work performed
• Documents all work performed and recommended on the repair order
• Operates all tools and equipment in a safe manner
• Attends manufacturer-sponsored product training as requested
