RESPONSIBILITIES
The main duty of the Non-Structural Technician is to repair minor damages caused by accidents. They must have extensive knowledge of how to assess and fix dents and scratches on vehicles. The technician should also be skilled in removing damaged panels and fenders, mixing polyester resin and hardener, and properly sanding and filing repaired surfaces to restore the vehicle’s original appearance. Responsibilities include:
Test-fit and install parts such as bumpers, fenders, grills, mouldings, and other bolt-on items
Welding, panel replacement, structural, body filler
Ensure all needed repairs are identified to eliminate supplements and minimize repair time
Adhering to high-quality standards within the Collision Centre
Makes decisions on repair vs. replacement considering safety, cost, and cycle time
Removes upholstery, accessories, electrical and hydraulic window operating equipment, and trim to gain access to vehicle and fenders
Files, grinds, and sands repaired surfaces, using power tools and hand tools
Directs the work of an apprentice in the performance of tasks when needed
Repair and research procedures to ensure the vehicle is restored to the original manufacturer’s specifications, including door, hood, and deck alignments, chassis and frame measurements, and welded-on unibody parts
Protect interior and exterior non-repair areas from dust, dirt, scratches, primer, and overspray
